Question:
I work in the vegan section of a cafeteria and the pita and tortilla we serve in other sections contains whey and eggs, does anyone know of a brand of pita that is vegan? Thanks!

  1. Anyone know of a good store bought vegan pita bread/tortilla? http://lowfatveganrecipes.com/anyone-kno… #vegan

  2. have never seen any good flat breads from the store. I make mine from sctratch from whole wheat flour. Look for a chapati recipe most Indian breads are vegan.

  3. Try Trader Joes

  4. Hmmm… that’s strange to see eggs and whey in pita and tortillas.

Typically, pitas are just flour, yeast, salt and oil. Tortillas (corn) are typically masa, salt, lime water and a fat… lard or vegetable shortening. In the US, many tortilla companies are using veg shortening due to fears of animal fat.

You just need to search locally to see what’s available.
