Question:

@Reen I’m vegan and I’m one of the healthiest (if not the healthiest) persons I know. I’m never sick and I’m always full of energy. Nice to meet you! I’m vegan because I believe people have NO right to exploit animals in any way. Why do we believe we are superior to them? I feel really really sad and angry when I think human beings are enslaving animals for no reason whatsoever. Who granted us absolute power over all creatures on Earth?

Oh, Reen, you’ve never met a healthy vegan? Then you probably haven’t met many. I am a competitive swimmer in the NCAA who works out at least 30 hours a week. I also donate blood every three months and they are always impressed by how high my iron levels are. My doctor always comments on what good health I am in. And I’ve been a vegan for seven years so… go figure.

Reen has led a sheltered life; a vegan who eats a balanced diet is generally healthier than a meat eater.
Dairy isn’t healthy, because milk is basically a hormone-delivery system to help baby calves grow up to be big, strong cows. Even lowfat and skim milk contain IGF-1, which is otherwise known as “plug-and-play cancer fuel,” because it’s identical between humans and cows.
The saturated fat in both meat and dairy both contribute to atherosclerotic plaques and heart disease, whereas the saturated fat in coconuts is actually good for you. Which would you choose?
Ultimately, it’s the cruelty and needless torture that define the animal-husbandry industry industry that make me refuse to knowingly partake of any animal product. It isn’t even necessary to wear leather shoes nowadays; join the 21st century.

Because using any creature against its will is a violation of their rights to exist on their own terms. An animal experiences life the same way we do only from their perspective. A good book to read would be Lee Halls “On Their Own Terms; Bringing Animal Rights down to earth. I’ve read it. It made me think a little differently about it all.

There are two main reasons for veganism: Health and ethics.
Dairy cows are injected with hormones and antibiotics, and their food is laced with pesticides. Residue from the hormones, antibiotics and pesticides are found in milk. These have been linked to cancer and compromised immune systems.
Cows have to be impregnated to give milk, just like people. If the resulting calf is male, it is sold for veal. I’m sure you know what a pleasant future awaits them.
Dairy cows are “pumped out” after an average of four years, and are then slaughtered for meat.
Laying hens are kept in some of the most horrendous living conditions imaginable. Do some quick research in to “battery cages,” and you’ll understand. (Less than 5% of all eggs are “free range,” and even most of those operations are disgusting.)
A problem with all egg production, even free-range, is the disposal of unwanted male chicks. Because male chicks don’t lay eggs and do not grow fast enough to be raised for meat, they are deemed a financial liability, except for the few used as rooster studs. Nine out of ten male chicks are considered virtually useless and will be killed by the cheapest means available, including suffocation and being ground up alive.

Please take a look at these 2 very short videos. They show the brutal living conditions of dairy cows and egg laying hens.

It depends on the vegan. Animals that we use to produce eggs and milk are often raised in very harsh conditions. They live in crowded areas and they can be fed diets of food they aren’t supposed to eat. They can be mishandled by the farmers, tortured, and more. At the end of there life they are then slaughtered for food. The calves that the cows birth and the male chicks who are born as a result of the egg industry are killed. Calves are raised for veal, male chicks are simply grounded up, gassed, or thrown in a dumpster and left to suffocate. Some vegans would simply abstain from animals because they are not ours to own. They have their own lives, but we force them to essentially be our slaves, producing food for us day in a day out while not letting them live a normal life. Plus, leather the animal is obviously killed and animal testing is basically just torture and then death. So yea, some because of the horrible conditions the animals live in, some because either the milk, the eggs, the wool, whatever, isn’t ours to take to begin with. Vegans simply want to reduce the amount of animal suffering that they can.

Too much to write about in one answer.
If you REALLY want to know, read up on it:

Most foods with animal byproduct are unhealthy anyway. Avoiding animal products completely and forever, we will never know.

They are still tortured.
Dairy is not very healthy (fat, pus etc.)
Eggs make me want to throw up I didn’t even eat them when I was a meat eater.
I just don’t want to contribute to suffering of any creature.

Because they believe that factory farming pracitices are also cruel like milking cows with machines, caging chikens to lay eggs etc etc.. By the way I have never met a healthy vegan.
