Question:
Direct quote from Sarah Palin’s new book: “If any vegans came over for dinner, I could whip them up a salad, then explain my philosophy on being a carnivore: If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come He made them out of meat?”

^What do you think of this quote?^

I haven’t read the book. I saw this website on ThinkAtheist and I wanted to see opinions. The very fact that I didn’t kill myself should be proof enough that I DID NOT read the book…

  1. is sarah palin betty whites younger sister on the golden girls? they act alike….

  2. it was not philosophy, it was a joke.

    Lighten up.

  3. This argument doesn’t justify eating animals. However, it doesn’t prove the contrary point either. Sarah Palin gave a bad argument for something she believed. I hardly think this is enough to warrant others on here saying that she is an unintellignet person (since this, too, would be illogical on their part). As Aristotle said “One swallow doesn’t account for spring”. Neither does one mistake account for a person being unintelligent. Further, I think the burden of proof is on those people who actually believe animals have rights to show whether or not this is true. The problem is that people who eat meat ar made to feel guilty because the extremely popular belief now that animals have rights (especially the right to life) and those who eat them are some how infringing upon that right. Yet, this point hasn’t been established by anyone on here. Instead people revert to ad hominem attacks on Sarah Palin (as if that proved anything about whether or not we should be eating meat or not). While those on here are trying to appear logical and sophisticated they’re only showing why they need to return to logic 101.

  4. Did you know that Palin, while Governor of Alaska instituted a state bounty on Wolf’s paws recommending that they be hunted by helicopter? No wonder all the Southern Baptists love this idiot. I would not cross the street to read one thing she has ever written.

  5. I do not have any respect for anyone
who uses a Government owned helicopter
to shoot caribou at my expense,
even if it doesn’t wear lipstick. <}:-{(

  6. …she truly articulated her philosophy – a carnivore and capable to provide for her family too…

  7. Sarah probably was thinking about the canines we have in our mouths, indicating the natural design of our species being omnivores. That meat is a natural part of our diet genetically. and like so many others misspoke her humor.
It is sad to see such hatred and stupidity given air from the lungs of those who claim to be more caring than conservatives. Common, but still sad.
It doesn’t sound like even one who answered this question has read her book, but like so many others are ready to enter their vapid opinion, spewing hateful thoughts on someone they have never met,nor really know anything about.
I think is is humorous that Sarah Palin is a real enough person to be comfortable with her fallibility. I think it is interesting that the enemies of the conservative platform are continually so ill informed they can’t tell the truth from their own mantra. And worse, don’t care to accept a truth that does not benefit them. It is fascinating to read how her political enemies trumped up lies and used the media to get those lies out to anyone who would be gullible enough to believe them. (yup that is in the book) I think she has fought a good fight and for the best part, a clean fight. She is a better candidate being honest. She is a hard working person with good ideas. I can not help but respect what I am reading.

  8. Last used in a Simpsons episode. Matt Groening says it – “Ha Ha Ha” – Palin says it – “Oh my Gawd!”

In fact, this has been in the comedy joke circuit for about 50 years.

These mixed reactions show the blatant dual standard held by many.

  9. Don’t be confused between a philosophy and a joke.

  10. What, did you expect Sarah Palin to say something smart?

  11. Creationist nonsense wrapped in a lame joke

By her logic, we should also be cannibals, since we’re made out of meat too.

  12. It’s funny. That’s all. I don’t think she has really philosophized about it. I don’t think she’s willing or capable to think much on it, and that’s her whole point. *chew chew* I think god’s will (so to speak – I’m an atheist) is == what is. And what there is, is carnivorous humanity, so in a sense she is right. The will of god is doesn’t make a moral guide for how to choose what to eat, though.

  13. I think its a quote that displays a very average amount of intellect, logic and wit.

  14. It’s a good job she never became vice president or even president.

  15. 1) Why is she bothered so much by vegetarians? I think most of them vegetarians are living a much more healthier life than those obese Americans.

    2) I don’t see any real, philosophical aspect in that statement.

  16. I think it’s an attempt at lightening a somewhat touchy subject. However, Biblically speaking, God did give us the clean animals for food after the flood. On a more scientific level, our teeth are designed for an omnivorous diet.

  17. YOU ACTUALLY READ HER BOOK!!!
    (getting up from the floor)
If a vegan came over she would WHIP them
    and toss salad @ them
If god had not intended us to eat humans
how come he made us out of meat?
