It’s me again…in my gym clothes and looking like a hobo I tell ya about my taste-test of these vegan cookies and give you a tip for consuming cookies the size of your head.
Question:
I know this kind of question has been asked before, but I got a different take on it.
Wikipedia defines Veganism: “a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose”
Humans are animals.
Breast feeding is human females using themselves to provide food for their babies.
So does that mean that by definition, anyone who feeds breast milk to their babies is not excluding the use of animals, therefore does not live a true vegan lifestyle?
Question:
Springtime conference w/lots of hungry ppl to feed; figured on split pea soup & a vegan (lentil) sloppy joe bowl. Cornbread sounded like good side dish; need to pre-bake about 6-8 13×9 pans on Wed for Fri & Sat use. Mixes will be prohibitively costly—need scratch recipes. Prefer slightly sweet bread, not too crumbly. Please, no food processor recipes, but mixer is OK! Anybody have great recipes to share?
MaryEllen, you owe me a new keyboard (DROOL)! What size skillet (roughly)? I know what’s going to potlucks this fall (& will let me check pre-making & keeping capacity).
We post dish ingredient lists in conference “hospitality rm” so ppl know what they CAN eat (allergies, religious needs); folks read & go MMMM. Expect your cornbread would have a life expectancy of approx. 90 seconds per skillet, once cut (& would have to make sure ppl didn’t walk off with uncut slab—”it’s ONE PIECE, isn’t it?” Healthy eaters in the bunch.)
Gotta figure out SOME way to make yours as a *special treat* for the Beloved Community if at all possible. With the good “mass quantity cornbread” recipe given earlier, think the folks will be nicely stuffed! (This year’s soups: split pea w/turkey ham; lentil sloppy joe for the vegans.)
Question:
Hi, I have several cats right now, and they are all eating, and have been eating, dry food. Recently, I was looking up pet-food recipes to save money and I saw that many many site say that dry food can eventually lead to kidney failure and bladder problems because of the lack of water in their food. So my main question is, wet vs. dry food, and if I make my own foods can it be just raw meat with the occasional supplement?

Ok but I’ve also read that raw meat is actually better because otherwise you kill the good bacteria…and that if dry food has grain in it it leads to diabetes…I feel so stupid. XP
Thanks for such quick answers though.
I’m seeing alot of really helpful answers….but they are all different! What I’ve gathered from a majority, I’m thinking I’ll put them on a supplemented raw diet, with the occasional bit of dry food. As proven, cats who eat wet food vs. dry food and water actually get more liquid into their bodies in the long run.
I am not Vegan however I do have a pet Vegan; being a Vegan means she doesn’t eat meat or meat and dairy products. These include things like Milk, Butter, Cream and Eggs among other things. Being unable to have these products does not mean she will have to miss out as I hope to show. Here’s a Mushroom Stroganoff recipe for you to curry favour (I’ll do that recipe another time) with your own Vegan. You need: 1/4 lb Mushrooms Nutmeg 2/3 fl oz Soya Cream Vegan (or Dairy Free) Spread 2/3 fl oz Wine or Water Tomato Puree and Rice to serve with – Cook your Rice for 10 minutes (or according to instructions – In a pan on a medium heat put a large dollop of Vegan Spread – Once Vegan Spread has melted add your mushrooms and brown lightly – Once your mushrooms start to brown add your wine/water and cream – Stir gently to mix the spread, cream and wine/water – Add your tomato puree (3 or four squeezes of a tube should be more than enough) – Grate some nutmeg and add pepper to taste – Stir mixture 3 or 4 times a minute for 4-5 minutes until mix begins to thicken. Do NOT allow it to boil. – Strain your rice when it is cooked and leave for a minute to drain further. – Serve rice making a well in centre for your Stroganoff mix. – Pour Stroganoff mix into rice and serve for your pet Vegan to enjoy!
