Question:My girlfriend is claiming to be a Buddhist, though she has had much to say to me, and show me, such as how she does no harm to animals, is a firmly rooted vegan, and has a “let life live” philosophy, there are several speculations. Before I entertained the idea of possibly proposing to her, I looked into Buddhism and was shocked when I did the research of the “Buddhist precepts” and saw that she actually devotedly follows only a very small fraction of them. My question is I want to bring this to her attention, is she that serious about it-yet falls short, or is she just a baby buddhist and is still growing in her beliefs? Without offending her, I want to tell her that there are several things she told me, about the road to becoming a buddhist being tough, yet she skipped out on several of the things that would make it “tough” in our of-the-world society. Again, if there is anyone out there that has an idea of Buddhism and how it is in American society, what can I say to her to either help her with Buddhism or maybe make her realize she is not going all out with it?
