Question:
I went vegetarian last November. I’m considering going vegan this November at exactly a year.
Of course I don’t eat meat, I also don’t wear suede or leather, and I don’t eat anything containing gelatin (for example: marshmallows, yogurt, most gummies, poptarts, jello)
The past 3 or 4 months, I’ve been thinking about veganism and kind of inching towards it. Cutting back on the dairy, trying to make at least 2 or 3 vegan dinners a week.
My only hesitation on going completely vegan is that I live in a very small town with no decent grocery stores (whole foods or trader joe’s or something of the sort), plus I’m 15, and although my mom is very supportive of it, I have to go grocery shopping on HER schedule.
So in general, how difficult do you think it would be? Do you think it’s a good idea?
Question:
I’m 16, and I’ve successfully been a strict vegetarian (no slaughter by-products) for more than 5 years now. I am the only one in my mother’s, father’s, and stepfather’s families. My mother is relatively supportive, but I live with my father, who doesn’t get it at all, and couldn’t care any less. He’s been willing to let me live here and buy different foods (and might I add HEALTHIER foods; I cook a lot, and before I moved in all he was eating was prepackaged bullsh*t), but I told him today that I wanted to make the transition to veganism…
He became very angry with me. He says that I’m already making his life so much harder, and this would just be impossible. He doesn’t realize how many people DO live this way, and DON’T die of starvation. Cost is a big factor as well, although the most expensive “strange” food we buy right now is probably soymilk.
I need help, though. Inexpensive vegan brands and locations? I particularly need help with finding:
-Bread
-Soy Cheese
-vegan butter/margarine
-ways to cook tofu
-and a variety of vegan snacks.
Also, what seasonings are best with tofu?
Any help would be much appreciated ^-^ He’s very upset with me…
(oh, and the only stores we really have around here are wal-mart, supertarget, and cub… There is a co-op nearby, but he pretty much refuses to go there…)
Question:
I want to be able to transition easily to vegan in about a year, is there anything i can do now. My parents are fully supportive of my choice, but the rest of my family are still meat eaters. What can i do to make it easy for me and them?
I recently ran across this recipe that I thought you would all appreciate. I’ve always loved black-eyed peas so I was thrilled when I saw this amazing vegan recipe. The combination of flavors just takes them to a whole different level
Here’s another delicious Vegan recipe for everyone to try. You can substitute pancakes or tortillas depending on your taste. I’ve made this one a few times and it’s an amazing array of flavors.
Moo Shu Vegetables
Serves 8
Ingredients
3 dried black mushrooms
1 cup tiger lily buds
1/4 cup jicama, peeled
1 small carrot
1 small zucchini
1 stalk celery
8 mandarin pancakes [...]
I’m absolutely obsessed with Curry, but I know a lot of vegans don’t know how to move away from the butter and dairy that they may remember. You can also add potatoes for extra flavor.
Here’s a delicious meal for one that is amazing. You can easily scale it up to feed multiple hungry mouths.
