My wife really questions companies deeply, because there are so many things they don’t explain on the packaging. Even if the ingredients are not of animal origin, have they been animal tested? Also, it’s easy for a company to say they don’t animal test when the companies that supply them with the raw ingredients have already done so… so do all the company’s suppliers animal test? How would consumers know? And beyond animal ingredients and testing, what is the environmental impact of the product? Are the ingredients all man-made chemicals or are they botanicals? Is the packaging a piece of plastic that will end up in the landfill for a thousand years? We are coming to the conclusion that when truly taking animals, environment, and health into consideration that botanical extracts and oils packaged in glass or ceramic may be the only really vegan cosmetics. Welcome to ancient times I suppose.

here’s a link to PETA’s list (I know not everyone likes them, but they’re one of the most forward advocates of this cause) of companies which signed a statement of assurance that they don’t test on animals or sell products which contain any animal by-products. some cosmetic brands include Clinique, Almay, and Revlon.
