Question:
Hello,
i’m trying to adapt a recipe to make it VEGAN (no animal products)
I was wondering if any of you vegans out there could help me figure out substitutions for the following? (I need easy, cheap solutions… no egg beaters, ect):
Butter/margarine
powdered milk
eggs
butter/margarine (for frosting)
egg yolk
Here is the ORIGINAL recipe so you can see how theyre used:
Cookie:
1 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup cocoa
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Filling:
1/4 cup butter or margarine room temp.
1 tbsp. water
2 tsp. instant coffee powder
1 egg yolk
1 cup powdered sugar
Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp. water
If you see anything else that should be substituted to make it more vegan, do tell!
Thank you for any/all info/substitutions you may give!
Smart balance is vegan.

1 tbsp. water

When i say vegan infront of some ingrediants, im just saying you need to read the ingrediants. Some of them have animal products in them, like sugar and flour, so just be careful which one you buy.
Good Luck
butter- vegan butter. aka soy butter. taste pretty much the same and no aminals get harmed!
powdered milk- soy powdered milk aka soya powder.
eggs and egg yolk – you can get egg substitute. its pretty much the same. and for eggs you can use the egg substitute or apple sauce
and for the frosting you can also use vegan butter
Butter/margerine – vegan butter, you can get this is any health store or in the butter section of some grocery stores. it will say dairy free.
Eggs – egg replacer – you can buy it at any health store. Or you could use oil or apple sauce.
Powdered milk – You can buy soya milk powder.
It would be easier to go find a vegan recipe:)
