I no longer eat a lot of meat substitutes, but some of the better ones are:

Gardein (they make all kinds of wonderful things!)
Tempeh (I marinate and roast it, and use it in place of meat in all kinds of dishes)
    Amy’s Texas Veggie Burgers

  4. What are some meat and dairy substitutes that are vegan friendly? http://lowfatveganrecipes.com/what-are-s… #vegan

  5. Amy’s has the awesome Texas Burger.

Gardenburger has a few good items.

You can make your own seitan or use tofu in a recipe.

There’s a German company called Viana that makes all sorts of analogues. You can get their stuff at http://www.veganessentials.com or http://www.veganstore.com.

A friend of mine swears by http://www.veggiebrothers.com, but I haven’t tried them yet.

For dairy, Tofutti makes a lot of stuff that’s accidentally vegan. They’re geared toward the lactose intolerant, not vegans, so do read labels.

Earth Balance Buttery Spread is the rockinest margarine for your potatoes, rolls, or cornbread. They also have buttery sticks that are good for cooking.

Soy Delicious Purely Decadent has some fabulous ice creams and ice cream treats.

Temptation also has some pretty good ice creams.

Whole Soy & Company makes vegan yogurts, refrigerated and frozen.

I was never a cheese person, so I can’t advise you there. But hopefully this list is a good start.

  6. Watch out for cheese substitutes. Many of them have dairy protein (casein) in them.

  7. All redwoods products are. :D

  8. Dairy would be “Tofutti” for cream cheese and sour cream substitutes.

“So Delicious” if your looking for a good soy ice cream that tastes every bit as good as the ‘real’ thing.

“Earth Balance” is a vegan ‘butter/margarine’ alternative.

Meat substitutes – TONS of them. Everything from TVP to the many companies that are out there that are making the substitutes that substitute for chicken, fish, and beef – and there are MANY companies out there. They have everything out there from ground meat substitutes to hot dogs to – well name it and it is more than likely out there – even bbq ribs (that aren’t really ribs) !

Personally on the meat choices – I prefer many of the ‘Gardenburger’ brand – but that is just a personal choice – you may find something else that you like better.

  9. Health food stores do an array of yummy vegan foods.

    I like Toffutti ‘cheese’ slices.

And I LOVE soya ‘pure’ spread! Their website is great!–>

    So Delicious Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert
    Tofutti—Better Than Cream Cheese
    Tofutti—Sour Supreme
Follow Your Heart—Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative
    Follow Your Heart—Vegenaise mayo
    Nate’s Meatless Meatballs
    Lightlife—Smart Bacon
    Gardenburger Meatless Riblets
    Gardenburger Flame Grilled Chik’n
    Tofurky Deli Slices
Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Chik’n Strips

  11. http://www.veganstreet.com/links/index.html This site will help you lots!!!

  12. Bean burgers and linda McCartney sausages are dairy free. I get these nut cuttlet thing form the supermarket and I have them with relish on a Whey free burger bun. Tasty.

  13. Seitan :)

  14. for protein use nuts as for dairy try soy milk those are the only two i can think of

  15. There are dozens of varieties of meat and dairy analogs out there… whether or not they are vegan depends on the product itself. Read the ingredient label. And often, vegan analogs will say “vegan” right on the package.
