Yes, the way i see it there is food, a small fraction of which is from animals. Ignore that bit, and you’ve got original vegan food.
When i ate meat, it was from the following species: pheasant, rabbit, trout, sheep, cow, pig, cod, and that was it. I now eat food from a huge number of different species: mushrooms, chanterelles, puffballs, shaggy ink cap, kelp, dulse, wakame, hijiki, kombu, pine nuts, and i haven’t even mentioned flowering plants, i.e. the majority of my food, yet.
There is a Rastafarian vegan tradition as well as Vegan Society style veganism called I-tal, and the followers of Pythagoras were also essentially vegan, so there are other styles of food around. Strangely, Jain food is not among them.
Well, fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, beans are original.
You can make a pilaf with a grain, some nuts, and dried fruit.
You can marinate veggies and grill them and serve with rice.
If you’re not averse to tofu or tempeh, you can make stir-frys with them.
Pasta with marinara sauce can be vegan.
There are all sorts of ethnic dishes that are vegan–such as hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouli, falafel, etc.
None of these requires a mock meat.
